Sleeping in his crib
Published by Mom January 10th, 2007 in NewsJoshua is 5 months old already, & he keeps getting more & more active. He can sit for very short periods by himself if he’s propped up with his hands. This doesn’t usually last long because he likes to kick his feet which knock him off balance. Plus, it’s much more fun to put his hands in his mouth rather than using them for support. At any rate, this is amusing to Mommy who keeps trying to help Joshua to sit. I’ll give him a little support while he sits & plays with toys (or rather tries to eat them!). Auntie Iris was here for a couple of days, which Joshua enjoyed. I think he won her heart as well. We sure enjoyed all of our recent visitors & look forward to more of them. Joshua still has to meet his other aunt & uncle, & his other 2 grandpas—hopefully they can all come out to see him soon!
Last night was Joshua’s first full night sleeping in his crib! This was more of a milestone to me than to Joshua. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep because I had to wander into Josh’s room at least 5 times during the night to check on him. It would’ve been more if I wasn’t staring at him in the video monitor we have pointed at the crib. He slept pretty well although he sure moves around a lot. We put him with his head to the left & the next time we check, he’s positioned himself perpendicular in the crib with his head & feet touching the sides. Then the next time, his head is to the right. Usually, he ends up in the short position, which can’t last much longer because he’s getting too tall to fit that way. Maybe he’s used to being in more confined sleeping quarters from the co-sleeper that he likes it better that way. Who knows—we’ve got a strange kid. At least we know why Josh has a cute little bald spot on the back of his head—from all of the wiggling he does (not to mention trying to look around all the time!). Now that I know we’ll survive by ourselves at night, I think we might keep having him sleep in his own room, but Erick thinks this is too emotionally difficult for me not to be able to just look over at him next to me. It is, but I’m trying to be a big girl about this, since he’s outgrowing the co-sleeper & the transition is inevitable. We’ll see who wins. But at least Josh is doing well with it. We’re glad he’s sleeping in long stretches again, although it’s still hard to get him to sleep without being swaddled. We disagree on whose side he gets his stubborn streak from (probably both).
I’ve updated the photos, so there are lots to check out. He’s really getting to look like a boy & not just a little baby. It’s amazing to think that he’s changed this much in just 5 months!
