Real food & a big boy seat

Joshua got the taste of real food this morning, & it does not appear that he likes it.  I am very proud that I was in the minority of moms who exclusively breastfed their babies for the entire 6 months that the AAP recommends.  But now we’re adding rice cereal to his menu, & other foods when he’s got this down pat.  Eating from a bowl & spoon is much more work than sucking it up!  Most of the cereal just dribbled down his chin, which was cute.  Joshua was also given the go-ahead to start drinking water from a sippy cup, however he definitely did not like this & made a yucky face when he tasted the water.  We’ll keep working on this whole eating thing everyday & hope he starts to like it.  He certainly can’t breastfeed his entire life, so hopefully he will. :-)

Because Joshua got so darn tall, that meant that he officially outgrew his infant car seat.  We got him a convertible car seat & are installing it into the car this morning.  He looked happy when we put him in it last night to test it out, so that’s a good sign.  He knows he’s a big boy now.  Today is a day of firsts—eating & now a regular car seat!  I can’t wait until he’s a year old so we can let him face forward, but he likes looking into the mirror we set up so we can peak on him while we’re driving.  He still loves the cute baby in the mirror.  I will miss being able to just carry him in the carrier & attach it to the grocery cart when we go shopping, & especially letting him sit in it & sleep in the living room when we get home while I put the groceries away until he wakes up, but this is no more thanks to our tall genes.  Too bad we don’t have a garage so he can just sit & sleep in the car while I do this!

Joshua & I attended our first Valentine’s Day party yesterday.  I didn’t expect to have to buy Valentine’s cards for our 6 month old, but I did.  He got some cute cards back, as well as come candy which Mommy & Daddy confiscated from him (I’ll eat some so Josh can have some that way—at least that’s my excuse).  The Spouses Club put on this little event & it was lots of fun.  I enjoyed socializing with the other moms & Joshua seemed to like watching the other kids.  He is especially fascinated with his little friend Charlie who is now able to sit up all by himself.  Josh just stared at him as if he was studying how Charlie did it.
