Happy CHD Awareness Day!

Today is not only Valentine’s Day but Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day.  We spent Sunday at the Children’s National Medical Center for their annual CHD Awareness Day celebration.  It was nice to get to see some of Joshua’s nurses as well as his social worker Kristen who were all so excellent & helped us get through the overwhelming week at the hospital.  There were physician speakers, as well as an adult with CHD who talked about her experiences.  We look forward to going to this event next year!

The following day, Joshua & I returned to CNMC for his 6-month developmental assessment.  We enrolled Joshua in a study while he was in the hospital to help them develop a new oxygen monitoring device & it entails follow-up developmental screenings for 2 years.  It’s nice having our own developmental psychologist to consult with.  Josh was examined by one of his cardiologists & she couldn’t even hear his heart murmur, so that’s good news!  The developmental team said he’s progressing well & gave a few tips for what we should do next to help Joshua keep developing as well as he has been.  Josh didn’t even play as well as he usually does at home because he kept staring & smiling at the women–the little flirt.
