Santa came
Published by Mom December 26th, 2007 in NewsSanta definitely hit our house on Christmas Eve. Joshua got several presents from Santa & lots more from family & friends. We woke up & opened Josh’s stocking first thing. He got a neat microphone that amplifies/distorts your voice when you speak into it. Josh didn’t know what to make of it at first but by the end of the day, he had fun ‘talking’ into it to hear his funny voice. He also got a little board book & his requisite “writing utensils” from Santa (Adam & I got at least 1 writing utensil from Santa every year growing up—this was my first year not to get one, probably because Santa forgot since he had so many gifts for Josh).
After opening the stocking presents, we got the turkey started, ate breakfast, & opened the rest of the gifts. Josh got lots of cool things & he actually helped unwrap them this year. When we handed him his first gift to open, he just carried it around & didn’t understand that the actual gift was inside the wrapped package. He eventually got the hang of it, but then he wanted to tear the wrapping paper into bits rather than take the gift out when he tore the paper away. Silly boy. Joshua helped me to unwrap a present from Erick & seemed excited to see a sparkly, pink gift card from Victoria’s Secret. Josh didn’t want to give it up & carried it around the room for quite awhile as he played with his toys. When I took it back, he got mad.
When Joshua was done playing, we all took a nap. By the time we woke up, it was just about time to take the turkey out of the oven! Although it wasn’t my finest meal I’ve cooked, it did seem to turn out pretty well—at least to Erick & me. Joshua pretty much just ate a roll & a little bit of turkey, rejecting everything else. He’s been a very picky eater lately so I guess I’m not too offended, but I sure hope this picky phase will end soon (although I doubt it). The rest of the day, we played with Joshua’s toys, ate some leftovers, & then Erick & I watched a couple of dorky Christmas movies on TV while Joshua slept.
All in all, we had a very good Christmas. While it would’ve been nice to be with our families, we enjoyed being our small family alone together, especially since we have such little free time to spend with each other. Next year, Joshua should enjoy things even more & it will be neat to watch him since he still doesn’t really understand the Christmas concept quite yet. All he knew was that it was fun having Mommy & Daddy both around to play with all day. We hope that all of you are having a wonderful holiday season & have a happy New Year’s! It’s hard to believe that 2008 is just around the corner…
