Cookie monster
Published by Mom February 7th, 2009 in NewsThis morning was a fun event at Children’s—their annual CHD Awareness Day. A bunch of us families with cardiac kids & some of the hospital staff got together to visit. They had a cake, cookies, & some veggies on a table for us to snack on. I gave Joshua a cookie to get that out of his system early on but it didn’t work. My little cookie monster kept running toward the trays of cookies & grabbing another. He was so quick that he managed to get ahold of 8 cookies in the 2 ½ hours we were there. I stopped him many more times than that, but he was persistent. Many times, I would get to Joshua right as he grabbed a cookie, then try to straighten his arm & bring it away from his face, but he kept doubling over so that he could bring his mouth to the cookie in his hand. It was quite comical, actually. If my reflexes weren’t as fast as they were, this kid would’ve easily polished off an entire plate of cookies (if not more!). Not once did Joshua attempt to steal any of the vegetables so they were safe, unfortunately.
In spite of his cookie obsession, Joshua still had fun playing with the other kids, dancing to the kid music, shaking little maracas, & even pretending to be a doctor for the day. They had a station set up where the kids could “examine” their parents, complete with a blood pressure machine, scale, thermometer. Joshua is scared of the BP machine so he ran away when they brought that out but he had fun standing on the scale (he’s now up to 33 pounds!). It was so nice to see everyone again & we will miss them when we move away, but I promised that we’d go back for a visit before we leave.
Joshua has been the man of the house again for the past week. Erick is in San Antonio for his emergency medicine rotation—his last away rotation (yeah!)!!! He’s only gone for 4 weeks so no plans to go visit this time. The day he left, I was incredibly sick but fortunately the worst only lasted that day & it’s been uphill ever since. Joshua didn’t mind my not feeling well because he got to watch cartoons for much of the day. Unfortunately, that’s been a hard habit to break for him but now that Mommy’s up to playing more, he’s managing OK. We are already looking for Erick to get home, especially since he should be done with exams & (hopefully) might have more time to spend with us when he’s not working!
