Meeting Auntie
Published by Mom February 26th, 2009 in NewsMy mom & her 93-year-old aunt Sandra came to visit for a couple of weeks while Erick was gone. Mom didn’t like the thought of me spending my birthday without another adult to celebrate with so they came out from Texas. I hadn’t seen her since May & Sandra in years so it was great they could come. Joshua had a great time being spoiled by Grandma & he liked playing with “Auntie” (especially when she read stories to & watched cartoons with him!). Joshua kept taking her cane & walking around with it which was really cute.
Unfortunately, Mom’s visit wasn’t quite the fun time with excursions we were planning because of a nasty GI bug. Without going into detail, Joshua kept throwing up for 4 hours the night they flew in & then sporadically the rest of the evening. He got pretty dehydrated so we were told by the evening pediatrician on call to take him to Walter Reed’s ER for IV fluids right away. Well, we followed his advice & then waited 6 hours to even see a doctor! So much for ‘right away!’ The poor little guy eventually got the IV & saline, perked up, & we were discharged in the morning. After almost a week, the rotavirus finally cleared his system. Poor Sandra got sick as well so it wasn’t a fun, relaxing visit for her.
One big milestone for Joshua was that someone other than Mommy put him to bed at night—after nearly 1,000 days of me being involved in at least part of the bedtime routine! Mom had no problem putting Joshua to bed while I was at a moms’ night out dinner with friends. Now hopefully Erick will take over bedtime every now & then…
Erick was able to change his return flight a few days early which I was so happy about. He got back last night, in time for us to go on a dinner & a movie date for the first time since Josh was born. Mom & Sandra flew home this morning so Joshua is going to be going through Grandma withdrawal soon.
