Still heart healthy!
Published by Mom July 20th, 2009 in NewsJoshua had his semi-annual cardiologist appointment this morning & I’m so relieved that his new doctor did not see anything new going on with his heart. All of the problems we knew about are of course still there, but they’re no worse than before. Yeah!!! Dr. Puntel used to be the director of the entire pediatrics department but unfortunately he’s retiring next year so stepped down. We’re happy to have him as Joshua’s new cardiologist since he came with very high recommendations. Joshua hasn’t been weighed in awhile so now we know his latest stats. He’s 34lbs 3oz, & 40” tall (although I think he’s taller—he didn’t cooperate much with standing up to be measured). That puts him (of course) at the top of the chart for height & 75th percentile for weight. That’s my boy!
My dad came up for a visit last week & we had a great visit. Joshua loved having Grandpa around to play with again & dad had fun playing with Josh. The 3 of us went to a Rainiers game—Joshua lasted all of 2½ innings before asking to go home. On the way out, we saw Rhubarb, the mascot (a moose), & Joshua was so excited. Every time we drive past the stadium, at least twice a day (on the way to & from preschool), Joshua excitedly points out the stadium & the picture of Rhubarb on the side. He’ll ask to see the baseball “stadi-dum” over & over until we pass it.
Joshua is enjoying school but every morning is still a battle. The first words out of his mouth most mornings are “don’t want to go to preschool” & “don’t want Mommy to go bye-bye.” But as soon as I leave after dropping him off, he immediately stops crying & has fun. When I go to pick him up, I like to watch him playing before he sees me but usually one of the other kids points me out so I can’t spy for too long. The teachers say he’s adjusting well. At naptime, he even goes right to sleep! And the amazing thing is that now when we put him to sleep at home, he usually falls asleep so quickly compared to before. The price of his tuition is worth it for that reason alone!
When I went to get Joshua from school the other day, the director handed me an incident report. They have to fill out a form whenever one of the students gets hurt. Joshua got a little cut on his finger & he insists that it was because a dinosaur bit him. He was out on the playground playing with some toy dinosaurs & I assume he hit himself & scratched his finger. Or maybe one of them came to life & bit him like he says. He didn’t hold a grudge against the dino & even asked to take it home with us to play. Every now & then, the director lets him take home a toy, which has been a big help with getting him back the following day. Hopefully we won’t get any more incident reports in the future, from extinct animals or anything else!
